Changes during production

  • E24 launched as the 630 CS and 633 CSi (03/1976) Shown to the press in March 1976 (production from January): carburettor 3.0-litre 630 CS and fuel-injected 3.2-litre 633 CSi, built by Karmann until August 1977, then bodies by Karmann and final assembly at Dingolfing.
  • 635 CSi with spoilers, stripes and a 5-speed (06/1978) The 3.5-litre 635 CSi (218 PS) arrived in mid-1978 as the flagship with front and rear spoilers, side stripes, BBS cross-spoke wheels, a sports 5-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differential. The 4-speed gave way to a 5-speed across the range.
  • 628 CSi replaces the 630 CS; ABS optional (1979) The 2.8-litre 628 CSi (184 PS, fuel-injected) took over from the carburettor 630 CS; ABS braking was offered as an option. The 633 CSi moved to Motronic.
  • Facelift on E28 running gear (spring 1982): outside the scope (05/1982) From spring 1982 the E24 got taller bumpers, a bigger front spoiler with integrated fog lamps, a rear bumper running to the arches, new instruments and the 3.4-litre 635 CSi. The 3D model shows the earlier body only; a 1982 car here means one built before the facelift.
